Challenge
Producing more sustainably – without compromising on supply.
A German insulation manufacturer wanted to make its site in Poland less dependent on fossil fuels and switch its energy supply to renewable sources.
Production requires a continuous supply of process steam. At the same time, the previous use of fossil fuels was to be reduced significantly and existing production residues put to good use.
The new energy supply therefore had to meet two requirements at once: reliably provide the energy needed and use the available biomass fuels as efficiently as possible. Availability was also decisive. Maintenance and cleaning work should affect ongoing operation as little as possible.
Solution
Biomass that reliably delivers process energy.
Kablitz built a biomass heating plant with a natural circulation steam generator, specifically matched to the requirements of the site and the fuels used: wood chips, veneer wood and bark.
The combination of water-tube and fire-tube evaporator ensures reliable steam generation. A downstream economiser additionally uses the heat from the flue gas and thus improves the plant's energy efficiency.
Getting more out of every fuel
Efficiency starts where energy would otherwise be lost.
To use the available fuels as completely as possible, the plant features fly ash recirculation. Unburnt material is returned to the combustion process, so that more energy is obtained from the fuel.
Reliability in ongoing operation
Less downtime. More availability.
High plant availability was particularly important for the production site. The heat exchanger surfaces were therefore equipped with special soot blower systems. The superheater, fire-tube and economiser surfaces can thus be cleaned automatically during operation.
This reduces maintenance effort and helps keep the plant's output stable in the long term.
Result
Renewable energy for reliable production.
With the new biomass heating plant, the site can cover a large part of its process energy from renewable fuels while making use of existing production residues.
- Fewer fossil fuelsThe switch to biomass reduces dependence on fossil fuels.
- Energy from production residuesWood chips, veneer wood and bark become valuable process energy.
- High energy efficiencyThe economiser uses additional heat from the flue gas and improves overall energy utilisation.
- High availabilityAutomatic cleaning systems enable reliable operation with as few interruptions as possible.
- More sustainable productionThe use of renewable fuels improves the site's energy balance.
