For a particleboard plant in Romania, Kablitz built a 60 MW hot gas generator that supplies the process heat for particle drying – safely integrated into the existing production.

Challenge

The right heat – exactly where it is needed.

For a particleboard plant in Romania, Kablitz developed a hot gas generator that supplies the process heat required for drying the particles. The plant was not only to be powerful but also to integrate safely and reliably into the existing production environment.

In particleboard production, uniform drying is decisive for the quality of the end product. This requires large quantities of hot air with precisely defined properties.

The challenge was to supply the existing production line reliably with hot gas while meeting the different requirements for temperature, combustion and air flow. Maintenance was also to be possible without unnecessarily disrupting ongoing production.

Solution

Hot gas that integrates precisely into the production process.

Kablitz built a hot gas generator with an output of 60 MW that supplies the heat for the downstream heat exchanger. The heat exchanger then heats fresh air for the particle dryer. This way, the heat enters the drying process in a controlled manner and the particles are reliably dried to the required moisture content.

Efficient combustion for different fuels

Flexibility starts with the firing system.

Bark, forest residues and waste wood are used as fuels. The firing system was therefore designed to process different fuel qualities reliably. A mechanical reciprocating grate and three-stage combustion air control allow targeted control of the combustion process.

In addition, the afterburning chamber was prepared so that the system can be extended with a dust-gas combination if future requirements call for it.

Safely integrated. Safely operated.

Maintenance without unnecessarily slowing down production.

An integrated hot gas damper safely isolates the new hot gas generator from the existing system. This allows maintenance work on the plant while the existing production continues to run as independently as possible.

The result: more safety, more flexibility and fewer unnecessary interruptions in production.

Result

Heat that production can rely on.

With the new hot gas generator, the particleboard plant has a reliable heat source for its drying process. At the same time, the plant offers flexibility in fuels and additional options for future adjustments.

  • 60 MW hot gas outputPowerful heat supply for the particle dryer.
  • Flexible fuel useBark, forest residues and waste wood can be used for energy.
  • Precise combustionThree-stage combustion air control enables controlled and efficient combustion.
  • Future-proofThe afterburning chamber is already prepared for a possible later extension.
  • Safe maintenanceThe hot gas damper allows safe isolation from the existing system and makes maintenance easier.
