A biomass CHP plant supplies a wood industry company with heat for pellet and pallet block production and feeds 55 million kWh of electricity into the grid every year.

Electrical output
Challenge
The site produces 150,000 t of wood pellets and 220,000 m³ of pallet blocks a year, plus a sawmill cutting 530,000 m³. The residues were to serve as fuel – some with a moisture content of up to 65%.
Solution
The Kablitz firing system burns bark, waste wood and wood chips with up to 65% moisture without pre-drying. This is made possible by a specially designed combustion and afterburning chamber with combustion air preheated to 250 °C. The boiler generates 55 t/h of high-pressure steam at 67 bar and 485 °C for a condensing turbine.
Result
The plant went into operation in 2007 and generates around 12 MW of electrical output. It is equipped for 72 hours of operation without permanent supervision according to TRD 604 and runs around the clock.
