Challenge
When production runs, energy has to be available.
For a panel production plant in Smorgon, Kablitz developed a biomass energy centre that reliably supplies production with heat – around the clock. The plant was not only to cover today's energy demand but also respond flexibly to different production conditions and support future requirements.
The production of wood-based panels generates large quantities of bark, wood chips and production residues. At the same time, production needs a continuous supply of process heat – reliably and exactly when it is needed.
Changing production rates also had to be taken into account. The energy centre had to be able to adjust its output quickly to actual demand without wasting energy.
Solution
Flexible enough for production. Efficient enough for the future.
Kablitz developed a biomass energy centre with a combination of grate and dust/granulate firing. This combination makes it possible to use different production residues in a targeted way while responding quickly to changing output requirements.
The heat generated is supplied to production via a thermal oil boiler. The remaining heat is also used: a downstream hot water economiser recovers additional energy from the flue gas and makes it available as process heat.
Energy from the production cycle
What production leaves behind becomes an energy source again.
Bark, wood chips and other production residues do not become a disposal problem but are used for energy directly on site. Thanks to the combination of different firing technologies, the plant can process different fuels and adjust its output flexibly to production demand.
The result: an energy supply that adapts to production – not the other way round.
Result
Reliable energy. Fewer unused resources.
The new energy centre reliably supplies production with the process heat it needs while using existing production residues as fuel.
- 24/7 supplyThe energy centre is designed for continuous operation and reliably provides the process energy required.
- Flexible outputThe firing control automatically adapts output to the actual demand of production.
- More from residuesBark, wood chips and production residues are used directly to generate energy.
- Additional heat recoveryThe hot water economiser also uses the remaining heat from the flue gas and returns it to the process.
- Less CO₂Using existing biomass and efficient heat utilisation improve the energy balance of production.
