Hürth Germany
With a thermal input of around 88 MW, the CHP plant in Hürth supplies a paper mill with process steam and generates up to 20 MW of electricity.

Challenge
On the premises of a paper mill in Hürth-Knapsack, up to 370,000 t of fuel per year were to be used: fresh wood and green waste, plus a share of paper sludge, waste wood A I–A III and solid recovered fuels – all year round, 8,760 hours.

Solution
A reciprocating grate firing with 87.5 MW supplies a boiler with 97 t/h of steam at 81 bar and 490 °C. The fuel is delivered by truck to a storage hall with grab cranes; downstream flue gas cleaning is designed for the limits of the 17th BImSchV.
Result
The plant supplies either up to 20 MW of electricity or up to 50 t/h of process steam to the paper mill.
