Buchen Germany
In the Odenwald, a Kablitz waste wood CHP plant generates steam for 7.1 MW of electricity and district heating.

Challenge
At the In den Sansenhecken site in Buchen, waste wood of categories A I to A IV was to be used in a combined heat and power process for electricity and district heating.

Solution
The fuel is stored on an open area of around 4,500 m³ and freed of oversized pieces as well as ferrous and non-ferrous metals. An air-cooled reciprocating grate with a thermal input of 27 MW supplies the steam boiler for 30 t/h at 66 bar and 425 °C. The flue gases are cleaned by dry sorption with lime and activated carbon, and nitrogen oxides are reduced by SNCR.
Result
The plant went into operation in March 2003 and generates 7.1 MW of electrical output. The average boiler efficiency is 86.9%.
