Riga (Latvia) Hot gas generator with residual wood combustion In the course of a restructuring and expansion of its plant, the customer also wanted to modernize its energy concept and adapt it to the new production capacity. The goal was to make optimum use of the available space and existing components and to keep to the tight schedule so that production could start as soon as possible.

The hot gases produced during combustion pass through the bricked combustion and post-combustion chambers and then into a mixing chamber, where the temperature of the hot gases is reduced from 950 °C to 825 °C before reaching the hot gas cyclone. There, the coarse fly ash particles are separated from the flue gas stream so that the flue gases are precleaned before reaching the dryers. By switching to biomass energy, our customer was able to save energy costs in the long term and also make an active contribution to environmental protection. Since almost 100 % of the hot gases produced are used in the produc- tion process, the efficiency is also outstanding.

Due to the high-quality materials and the high degree of automation, our customer has no disadvantages in terms of availability and personnel costs compared to fossil-fired plants.

Brasov (Romania) Hot gas generator The new hot gas generator was installed in a particle board plant in Romania on an installation area that is concealed from all sides. The hot gases produced go into a heat exchanger which warms up fresh air to go into the chip dryer, in order to dry the chips to the appropriate moisture in a “clean” way.

The combustion system implemented by Kablitz works with a mechanical reciprocating grate and a three-stage combustion air supply, which means that the combustion air is regulated in three different planes: Primary air in the underwind zones below the grate and secondary and terti- ary air in the upper part of the combustion chamber or in the transition between combustion chamber and afterburner chamber. Exhaust air from the press hall and the dryer circuit is used as combustion air.

In addition to the existing firing system, the afterburner chamber is designed to enable the retrofitting of a dust- gas combination burner and granulate nozzles. The hot gas slide valve installed at the outlet of the hot gas generator safely disconnects the new plant from the existing system using sealing air and thereby enables the safe execution of the maintenance work during ongoing production operation.
